Puppy S.T.A.R. Classes

We are so excited to be offering an innovative, exciting new program for puppies and adolescents from 8 weeks to 10 months of age.

Puppy S.T.A.R. is a program started by the AKC to reward owners and their puppies. S.T.A.R. stands for “Socialization, Training, Activities and Responsibility".

We offer two age ranges of classes - one for young puppies between 8 and 16 weeks, and one for puppies and adolescents up to 10 months of age at the start of class.

Starting during the early critical periods of development (that is, the first 4 months of a puppy's life), allows our younger Puppy S.T.A.R. classes to include many advantages that benefit you and your puppy throughout his or her life. This younger puppy class includes off-leash puppy play and a variety of off-leash exercises, activities and games appropriate with younger puppies in a group setting. The older (adolescent) class may also include off-leash play when appropriate for the ages and sizes of the puppies enrolled.

Whichever class you enroll in, you'll love Puppy S.T.A.R. Graduates receive a Certificate of Graduation and an All Dogs Gym bandanna. After graduating, your puppy qualifies for a Medallion and Certificate from the AKC.

Puppy S.T.A.R. class focuses on teaching puppies in the way they learn best, and we focus on teaching the behaviors owners tell us they want most, including:

Come when called
Sit on command
Lie down on command
Stay when told
Walk without pulling on leash
Greet people without jumping up on them
Calm, quiet behavior
And more

More than these behaviors, this class teaches you how to teach your dog - not just in a "formal" training session, but whenever you're interacting with him. If your puppy is awake, your puppy is learning. We want to help you teach your puppy what you want him to learn. We want to help you have the dog of your dreams.

Our Puppy Class program introduces the fundamentals of training to both your puppy and to you, including the behaviors taught in our B.A. for Dogs classes. You'll receive a copy of The New Clicker Training Manual by Gail Fisher, a clicker and training treats. All classes progress upward to help you achieve the level of manners and training that suits your needs as your puppy maturesand graduates of Puppy S.T.A.R. qualify for our M.A. for Dogs class.

Puppy S.T.A.R. is:

Socialization - introduces your puppy to a wide variety of places, people, things, activites, and other dogs and puppies. It has been well-demonstrated that socialization as a puppy is critical for the mental and emotional health of the adult dog.
Training - includes teaching a broad range of the behaviors our students have told us they want most. Not just the polite behaviors of walking on a loose leash, sit, lie down, stay, and relax, we also include polite greeting, retrieve and willing give you object from your puppy's mouth, and come when called away from distractions. And our training is done both on-leash and of-leash, because we know that's what you want most!
Activities - to make your dog a participating member of your household, and learn about a wide-variety of fun things you can train your dog for, and enjoy together.
Responsibility - We know our students are responsible dog owners, and the Puppy S.T.A.R. program rewards you for it! Our program includes all that, and MORE! Our Puppy S.T.A.R. program is 8 weeks of focused training -- focused on the learning and issues of puppies and adolescents. We provide the firm foundation and behaivors that we know you want your puppy to have.
